Irma Bau and Irina Veselova met each other in Barcelona in 2017, during a masterclass of Peter Bruns. They formed an immediate connection and decided to perform together regularly as a duo.
Their first public appearance was a concert in Barcelona in March, 2017, and the following April they won the First Prize in the International “Paper de Música” Competition in Capellades. Two international awards followed in the same year: First Prize at the International Josep Mirabent i Magrans Competition in Sitges (Spain); and Second Prize at the International Competition “Les Corts” in Barcelona.
As a part of the International “Paper de Música” Competition Award, they recorded their first CD “Joies del Romanticisme” (Jewels of Romanticism) at Atlàntida Vic Concert Hall with sonatas by Cesar Franck and Sergei Rachmaninov, released by Solfa Recordings.
In the following two years, they received classes from prestigious professors like Peter Bruns, Maria de Macedo, Arnau Tomàs and Jonathan Brown (members of Casals String Quartet), Jacob Shaw, and Cibrán Sierra (member of Quiroga String Quartet).
In 2019, they participated at the concert season “Audicions Intimes” (Intimate Auditions), organised and presented by the musicologist and journalist Xavier Chavarria. The concert was recorded and broadcast by Catalunya Música Radio.
During 2020, celebrating the 250 anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, they performed the entirety of his works for cello and piano in several halls and festivals around the country.
In addition, they have recently created an interdisciplinary project, in collaboration with the actress Arántzazu Ruiz, dedicated to the diffusion of the work of nineteenth and twentieth-century women composers.
